James Pierzchalski

Researcher

James Pierzchalski is an epidemiologist and PhD candidate supervised by Dr. Robert Hogg in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, with a research focus on people living with HIV and sudden cardiac death using administrative health data to undertake counter-factual studies. His work has expanded into health system equity and the integration of lived experience into care and policy development. His work is rooted in meaningful collaboration with communities, healthcare organizations, and individuals with lived and living experience, particularly in the context of underserved populations.
Through his research, James has led and been a part of project teams that bridge qualitative and quantitative methods to generate actionable insights across the research continuum—from community-informed studies to policy-relevant dissemination. He is committed to community-led and co-designed initiatives that challenge structural inequities and promote evidence-informed change within healthcare systems.
James brings a strong foundation in interdisciplinary research, quantitative methods, a demonstrated commitment to health equity, and a vision for integrating population health and frontline care.
